HistoryIllinois-born Judas Iscariot was the band of Akhenaten, a former member of underground death metal band Sarcophagus. The black metal band’s only member was also the proprietor of Breath Of Night Records and a political activist. The band existed from 1992 until 2002. Akhenaten apparently permanent relocated to Europe before the act’s demise. The band’s final MCD, 2002’s Moonlight Butchery, was issued through Germany’s racist label called No Colours. Akhenaten operated Weltmacht with Krieg’s Lord Imperial. The band which professes allegiance to Nietzsche's philosophically is still engaged in the composition of true, simply raw black metal as delivered by Darkthrone.

There are very few frills or fancy moments, as Judas Iscariot plays grim and dark black metal with little instrumental capability, but lots of evil inspiration. I am disappointed by the presence of keyboards here and there, but for the most part JI is loyal to the true concept of black metal. Sorry kiddies for this may neither be Emperor, Dummy Burger or English gothic rock, but instead tracks like Descent to the Abyss, Benevolent Whore, Dethroned for Eternity and Journey Through Visions of War are pure single-minded malicious darkness; all grim, all dark, all the time. The art once popularized by Darkthrone, Profanatica, Masacre and early Mayhem yet lives and not in the over-hyped marketing fjords of Norway but in America of all places.
